Her entire legal career has been committed to the practice of criminal law, and she prides herself on delivering her best work to every client. Her practice is founded on a comprehensive and well-rounded understanding of the criminal justice system. Having represented numerous high-profile sexual assault and homicide cases, Rebecca has honed the ability to craft robust defence strategies tailored to each unique case. Her approach to defence is built from the ground up, emphasizing both the formative behind-the-scenes work and the persuasive courtroom presentations.

Rebecca is particularly known for her court presence and cross-examination skills, having meticulously cultivated the ability to understand her audience and approach each cross-examination uniquely. This includes the careful handling of sensitive witnesses such as children. Throughout her career, Rebecca has handled or overseen more than 10,000 criminal cases, many of which have been reported in the news and legal journals. Her expertise as a trial lawyer has even been recognized by the Calgary Police Service, where she taught officers how to testify in criminal defence trials through mock trial settings at the Crowfoot Learning Centre.

In addition to her legal practice, Rebecca has played an instrumental role in numerous professional associations, contributing to the improvement of the justice system. As Vice President of the Calgary Defence Lawyers Association (CDLA) and defence representative for various committees, including the Provincial Court Implementation Committee and the Domestic Violence Courtroom Committee, she has worked collaboratively with prosecutors, judges, and other criminal justice participants to enhance the efficiency of the court system. Rebecca has also served on the Legal Aid Society’s Appeal Committee, ensuring appropriate representation for those who cannot afford a lawyer. Her contributions to these committees are driven by her commitment to protecting the rights of accused persons and improving access to justice.

Rebecca's passion for helping people extends beyond the law. She has been actively involved in community and civic activities, including mentoring students, guest lecturing at Student Legal Assistance, instructing at the University of Calgary Law Trial Advocacy Program, and guest judging trial and moot competitions. Additionally, she has served on the Executive of the Calgary Northeast Openers Lions Club and acted as the Social Coordinator for the Trails West Wolves U9 and U11 hockey teams. As the founder of Franny’s Fund, Rebecca has raised money for families requiring urgent assistance due to domestic violence and involvement in the justice system. This fund provides financial support for counseling and other needs where no other funding is available, now operating in five major Canadian cities since 2021. Her extensive involvement in various organizations reflects her ability to work with diverse communities and individuals. These experiences and her passion for justice inform her role as a lawyer, allowing her to serve both her clients and the community effectively.
